OK, let’s be clear. Smokey’s new fog lamps are not JW Speakers, and should not be judged against that standard. It goes without saying a simple replacement bulb can’t (ahem) hold a candle against the industry leader.
That said, darkness’ arrival tonight offered a chance to test out the performance of my new Sylvania Silverstars. The new lights are noticeably brighter than their Mopar predecessors. More notable, however, is the color tone. The Silverstars’ pure white is a refreshing change from the OEM bulbs’ yellow tint. The Silverstars do not cast a wider beam, likely because they use the OEM reflector housing. Without visual proof, it’s difficult to say, but I do think the beam is longer than the Mopar bulbs.
Since this wasn’t a planned upgrade, I don’t have “before” shots of the beam patterns cast by the OEM lamps, but here are the Silverstars’ patterns; judge for yourself.
