For Christmas 1963, future first lady Nancy Reagan gave her husband a present that would become a staple at the Reagan’s California ranch, a bright red 1962 Jeep CJ-6.
President Reagan had a fondness for our beloved Jeep workhorses, owning a pair of long-wheelbase ragtops in his lifetime. (The second was a light blue 1983 CJ-8 Scrambler.) And, now, the earlier Jeep is joining a 1909 steam-powered car owned by President William Howard Taft in a display of presidential vehicles at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
